Man on wire

This is a module of support which has been used to boost writing skills of Y6 pupils in small groups. It would work well with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children because the key theme is about dreams and courage, without waiting for the consent of the authorities.

There are several YouTube clips dealing with Philippe Petit’s wire walk between the twin towers of the newly built World Trade Centre in New York.

Although this last clip has a pompous voice-over it does contain lots of detail and quotes that can be used in an article.

Staying with the theme El Caminante, a wordless animation by Debra Smith can be used as a stimulus for a recount and the novel Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell could be used as a class reader (or be on the bookshelf.)
